Are there any further upgrades i can perform on my ford focus 1.6l duratec engine.
so far i have installed a K&N replacement filter,a sprint booster, and its been superchipped, the car has only covered a 1000 miles so far,its a damm sight quicker than it was but i'm sure it could give more, any ideas will be most welcome, including suspension upgrades, brakes etc.

Trade it in for one with a real engine?

You're wasting your time tuning a 1.6 - you didn't even get the VVT engine which you might have got a bit of go out of...

so funny i almost wish i hadn't sold my s-type 2.7 twin turbo jag,why did i sell it, because jaguar service doesn't live upto its reputation.so i bought an affordable euro blob car,for everyday use, then i thought to myself i will pose a question on pistonheads where i'm bound to get sensible answers from sensible people but no i get the one person who thinks its easier to mock than give advice, what do you drive, no dont tell me its a........................hyundai i10?and as for a turbo,i'm off to see cosworth on monday via burton performance

I'm in the same absurdly underpowered boat.

Does anybody have anything on this? I've been around the usual hotspots: I thought about some hot cams from cosworth - but they only really put stuff together specifically for the 2.0 and 2.3. (I'd desperately love to stuff a 225hp 2.0 crate in there but they're £7,000 ) and Mountune won't look at anything less than an ST.

Ideas?

Are you gents on about a 1.6 petrol mk2 Focus?
If so, its not a Duratec engine in those, its a Zetec SE, or Sigma engine biggrin
Easy way to tell is that the Duratec is timing chain, and the Sigma is timing belt. The Sigma was used in the Formula Fords for a while, and is apparently quite a potent little engine once the standard inlets are changed.
But it does get expensive to tune other than just exhaust and air filter changes rolleyes

Mine's a MK2 facelift with 100PS - so that probably makes it a Zetec SE.

So without variable valve timing - induction upgrade, a decent exhaust aaaand... any suggestions on an ECU?

Try speaking to Richard at http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/" Target="_blank">Omex Technology http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/.
Their 600 ecu would do the job well and cope with any future upgrades, the Rotrex supercharger kit would also fit. Biggest cheap powergains would be a 2.0 litre first though.

I have the same basic engine (Zetec SE/Sigma) in my race car. There is plenty more power to be had out of a standard lump but it would be wasted in a heavy Focus as torque is more useful than power in a road car. The Sigma can be tuned to about 170BHP without turbos or really silly money, but you would still be looking at nearly £4k for just that. It would be more sensible to drop a 2l Duratec in or even a Focus RS/ST turboed engine.
