A friend of mine has an Mot failure Escort, he's been looking around for the best scrap price. Car take back have quoted £170 and will collect it.

Has anyone had any experience of this company? I have told him that it's very unlikely they'll pay £170, and will just knock him down in price.
Am I wrong, or has scrap value shot up again recently? I just can't see them gaining anything from it.

Probably right, they'll dispatch some pikey with a grab wagon, give him 150 quid, and tell him any more he knocks off, he keeps.

Apparently they'll give me £20 for my Freelander - how come they'll pay so much more for an old Escort? eek

Like 'Itsame' said- at £170 I would snap there hand off!

My dad used Car Take Back to get rid of his old Sierra and was really impressed- he got about £150. He was quoted a different amount for having it collected from my house than from his house. (He was told that scrap metal is worth different amounts in different parts of the country because of competing companys and how far away you are from the scrap yard which sounds believable). My dad was also very careful of who he used because DVLA will fine you if you dont do it properly- Car Take Back work for the car companys so I dont think they are allowed to use pikeys like ‘TheEnd’ said.

You would probably get around £150 of you took it in as scrap metal to your local breakers. They give you extra for alloys and a catalytic converter. So if cartakeback will pick it up too them I would use them.

Not 100% sure about CTB but a lot of online scap car websites are like a franchise where they forward the enquiry on to the franchisee in the area to suit - hence different prices. The price you mention for the fiesta does seem extremely high so i would guess that it was going to a firm that maybe specialise in breaking fiestas and can afford to pay over the odds.

Sorry to drag this old post back up, however, i could not resist adding my tuppence worth

Yes, did it online this morning, guy came and took car away 2 hours later, gave me £155 as it said online for an 1988 micra. First class hassle free service, rare these days.

Sounds a brilliant deal to me anything over £150 collected for a small hatch is excellent value. Just be sure they do the paperwork (or you do) and inform the DVLA.

I collect kit cars unfortunately often scrappers because of IVA/modified chassis and DVLA registration problems.

I will be trying these operators as comparison on prices.

Ok, one from a slightly longer term member then...

I had a 1994 Micra that blew the engine.

I called them on the Thursday and the wagon turned up at work the Friday lunchtime with £120 in cash. Stuck it on the back and away they went.

I'd use them again in a flash.

ETA, March this year.

I have. They gave me £150 for a Fiat Cinquecento which they collected. Another bloke I spoke to offered just £75 (he was pretty surprised, said he gets £140/ton for scrap and the Cinq weighs a fair bit less than that). I would have got £170 had I delivered but it was going nowhere with a failed headgasket.

I wasn't in when they collected. Just left them the logbook and the keys under a mat, they filled it in and posted it and a £150 cheque through my door when they were done. Thumbs up from me.

I used them 2 months ago to take away a Megane Hatch that was goosed. Quoted £170. Guy came out next day and gave me £170. I said 'wait 2 mins and I'll get keys'.

He said 'Its Ok, dont need them'. Dragged it on and drove off.

Brilliant!

I was quoted £140 for my saab vector softtop from car take back or £110 if they picked up. But my local dismatler in aberdeen offered me £400 including pickup and that was without the engine block which car take back didn't know about. So from that I would consider car take back to be a complete rip off and would not touch them with a barge pole. Just because they are easy to deal with doesn't mean they are fair.

God this company really annoyed me . they offered me £150 for a fully working 13 year old Vauxhall astra 8v in mint condition which has passed it mot.. unless it was stolen, burnt out and striped down to the shell I wouldn't even bother with them.
I think 150 quid is a disgrace offer. But that not what upset me .. the amount of spam they sent under a few mins and states at the bottom of the email . to email them and delete the email you would think this would be enough for them to stop the spam of them sending quote. sadly not got to the point of forwarding them to my spam folder as it hit over 200 under an hour. this company is a joke and a scam I wouldn't even trust them. I would suggests anyone willing to scrap there car go and shop around. Don't use take Car take back.com unless its a dead brick

You ask for a scrap price from a scrappy and are then surprised when they offer you the scrap price? rolleyes

I used them for an old Clio, quoted £170 and they posted £170 in cash through the letterbox when they picked it up. Great service.

Got the Certificate of Destruction through the post a while later too.
