Just ordered a new 1 series for the missus this weekend. Couple of options to make it non-standard spec but being quoted at least 6 week delivery time.

Its not a major problem, but does it really take this long for a "popular" car? surely its a case of picking from a different parts bin as it rolls down the line? or am I being too harsh? smile

6 weeks seems pretty quick to me for a car built to your precise spec, especially when you take into account the couple of weeks it takes to get the finished car from the factory to you (via various docks, distribution centres etc) and prepped for collection.

Agree ^^

Not on a 1 series, but I've been told 12 weeks before on a new non-standard spec.

I guess you're assuming they dont have any other cars other than yours to build??

Dont forget two weeks of that is probably in travel - getting the car transported to docks, getting it on to the next ferry heading this direction, getting it off the ferry and into a storage compound, picked up by the UK distributor, paperwork processed, transported to your local dealer, booked in for its PDI checks, polished....

Agreed, both my Panda (optional ESP/airbags/sounds) and our Golf GTI (optional winter pack) took 12-13 weeks to arrive.

Any evidence to back that up or did you read it on the internet so it must be true? wink

Exactly the opposite really, I would have thought the size and scale of BMW they must have 1 series rolling off the production line minute by minute - right about the 2 weeks travel and prep though - forgot about that! Rather it came off the line than from a field! smile

ordered mine in december, it was ready for mid feb, so picked up march.

If you wait 6 weeks, it'll be on a nice 60 plate smile

Not forgetting of course that the BMW factories in Germany go on holiday for the whole of August-that's why their model year starts in September.
Current "top secret" delivery time for the 1 series ranges from 10-12 weeks, so your doing twice as well as everyone else if you only wait 6!

Yup, 6 weeks is very quick from what I've seen when doing my recent homework on buying a new 1 series.... and what I've been told by several dealers for a factory order.

6 weeks is good, pretty sure I waited 8 or so weeks and that was getting the order off another dealer who only wanted it as a demo / stock filler.

let the wife chose so she gets what she wants and can't nag me if it isn't exacly what she wants! smile

Try VAG - some VW Polos and Golfs are on 6mths. Elsewhere on PH someone said they'd just ordered an A3 and delivery is March.

Yep went to order a Golf GTD and was advised a 24 week delivery, so ordered a 330D SE instead - this is being built and delivered in October.
