the one in Riverside is highly recommended. 'The Riverside' I think.

The Noble House is good but expensive. The Happy Gathering in Canton seems to be popular with the Japanese that work in my company.

The all you can eat buffet in the Red Dragon Centre is good as well.

For takeaway, Wok to Go near Heath does the best takeaway food i have ever tasted!

I've have been going to the Riverside Restaurant of Tudor Road in Cardiff since the 70's. Really authentic dishes and the cantonese dishes are prepared liked the dishes I have tried in Hong Kong and China. Happy Gathering is really good for dim sum dishes (bit like Spanish tapas dishes). Enjoy smile

Pearl of the Orient. Very good.

As said others are Noble House and Happy Gathering. The Summer Palace in Llandaff also gets good reviews.

For takeaways I always go to the Noble House 1 in Albany Road. The Evergreen opposite used to be good but I found it quite hit and miss recently

Really?

Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of choice and I liked the fact you could have sushi/steak etc but the buffet food was cheap, greasey and dry!

I'm not a fan of buffets for that exact reason, there is a Chinese near my place in reading that let's you order as much as you want from the full menu, made fresh for you and brought to your table for a set price!

Sidekick is right, as is the OP, the majority of Chinese food in Cardiff, including Cosmo is dreadful!!

Yangs on Penarth Road, without question, puts the rest to shame!!

Riverside....lets go!

Sorry!

Riverside is definitely the best for authentic Chinese food, but can be a bit lacking in atmosphere. Happy Gathering is good. Another vote here for Noble House takeaway....thought the Evergreen had closed??

Sorry, I know it's a bit late, but anyway...

The Pearl of the Orient and BA Orient in Cardiff Bay are the best around here in my opinion. They are owned by the same guy - one is a restaurant, the other is a dim sum/cocktail bar
http://www.thepearloftheorient.com/
http://www.baorient.com/

In my experience The Riverside and Happy Gathering haven't lived up to their reputation (been to both about 5 times), and I'd describe them both as just 'ok'.

Some other local oriental places worth mentioning are: The Thai House, which is behind the CIA on Churchill Way - http://www.thaihouse.biz/
Or something different is Yakiniku in St Mellons, which is a Japanese/Korean restaurant and every table has a bbq in the centre and you can cook your own food (the chefs come over and help too). This place is the most authentic oriental restaurant in the area (in my opinion) http://www.seoulhaus.com/restaurant/restaurant.htm...

If you must have Chinese, then I can recommend 4 or 5 really excellent places in Bristol. My favorites being Mayflower (under the Premier Inn by the bus station) and Water Sky (above a large Chinese supermarket called Wai Yee Hong, near Ikea)

Pearl of the Orient used to be good, but never been back since they tried to take advantage of a large group and inflated the bill.....

I have to agree, I like Pearl of the Orient as well.....

The crispy spring rolls with the sweet & sour sauces are good.

I like to get either the beef or chicken soft noodles (low mein), it's GREAT low mein....

The crispy chicken balls are super good.... And the sweet & sour chicken is awesome too....

The chicken fried rice is good.....

Man, I might have to order me some Chineese today! LOL (mouth is now watering....)

My wife likes the deep fried boneless chicken in honey & lemon sauce... It's pretty good, but not as good as the dishes I listed above....

Cheers! smile
