I know most on here hate Vauxhall, thinking of order the Insignia Sri 2.0CDTI 160, Auto, with Sat Nav, Bluetooth, and DAB. Other cars on our companies list is BMW 118d with nothing apart from bluetooth, Ford Focus, Citroen C4 etc available but not really my thing, needs to be auto so choice massively restricted. Am I missing something, having driven one I thought I was quite good, any reason why hated so much?

Seemed ok, can't say i tested it much. Sat nav was very good, much better than most factory units.

Having driven nothing but the Vectra most of my driving life, i was super pissed off at how st the insignia looks from the front.

also annoyed they gave it a 4x4 platform for the vxr whilst they left the vec with crappy fwd.

I drive a couple of these at work as and when I need to and I think that they are really nice cars especially if you can get a decent spec model like the one you had posted. Its got one of those stupid eletric handbrakes though. Overall though I think I would choose one over lesser equipped "premium" brands as you arent paying the depreciation etc.

I liked th look of them but got a brand new Mondeo for half the price so it never really got as far as a drive though I think the Press prefer the Modeo as driver's car.

Cant think of any reason why not.

Big comfy car, lots of toys, no depreciation worries.

Do you really care so much what other people think?

Too right big and good for long distances, rather then near poverty spec 1 series which most non petrol heads would choose just for the badge.

Both myself and Mrs WR have new Insignias, (bought privately last year)....Lovely cars for the money, no problems at all.

Now with 100,000 mile warranty an even better buy.

Highly recommended.

I don't like the look of the 1 and too small, I even looked at the 320d with a contribution but just couldn't justify the £4k for I car I don't own. I've had a 330ci before and good car just I was never fussed about rear wheel drive, infact it was total rubbish in bad weather, my view anyway.

I'm not bothered what people think, just thought I might be missing something after looking on websites and not a lot of positive info. good to hear not everyone thinks they are crap. It seems to be the best car in the range even, sod the badge, I just don't understand why they are hated with a passion.

Engines are all crap and gutless. I've had a variety of these as hire cars, mainly 2L petrol and diesels. The petrol is terrible, the diesel merely awful.

Rear visibility is unfeasibly awful.

Reasonably comfortable. I quite liked the satnav and the DAB.

They're not a marmite car.

More like porridge. Bland and stodgy.

Hating an Insignia would be like hating bread.

ETA: If you think RWD is awful in bad weather, then the problem is the nut on the steering wheel.

I borrowed one about 3 months ago, and to be honest, it was that bloody tedious I can;t remember much about it - other than it has THE worst gearchange ever devised by man.

Right I'll try 1st, hmm doesn;t seem to be there, let's try 2nd.....SOME fkER HAS NICKED THAT TOO!!....right lets try pulling off in 3rd....ah that didn;t work, the engine appears to have stopped.

This was a hire car with 29K on, so may well have been fked. However none of the bits that worked were especially good at taking my mind off the bits that didn't work.

If it was me, the 118d would win every day of the week.

do you need a car that big
insignia's are driven by fat middle aged wkers - mind you so are most reppy type cars - my A3 included!
petrol heads would choose a 118d over an insignia, rear drive, good handling, quicker, more driver focussed.

an insignia is just a fat piece of st.

so the spec on the insignia that attracts you is auto, dab and satnav?

well, you can't do anything about the auto, but dab is over rated and tom toms are normally better than sat nav
but he is talking in the term sof a work hack which will just be most probably be used to cover mile and after mile of motorway work.

Given the alternatives you have listed, a specced Insignia looks like the way forward.

My only gripe with the Insignia is that it is big and feels it. Apart from that, get over the badge and it's a decent enough car.

I'm not after a sports car, I don't drive like a tt and my kids are with most times. I drove the 2.0 cdti 160 and certainly was not gutless, fine for my needs maybe not everyone’s.

I did say it was my view that RWD was crap in bad weather. In the snow I used to take my wife’s Saab 93, much easier to drive and you don’t need to be a trained racing driver like yourself. The massive low profile tyres didn't help on the 330ci.

I asked the question more to see if major problems with them, if really bad then I find the extra cash. Volvo s40 is on the list but £2.5k for a car I think will be replaced, not much else to choose from, bread it is.
