Hello all,

I own a S-Series LHD with VIN code xxxxxxxxPL011034 but can't figure out the correct type, it is imported from Belgium in to the Netherlands in 2003 as type description SPORT !!! If I follow the Steve Heath explanation there is no P code (1993) production, only 29 x V8s and 34 x S4 in his table.

Any help please?

Kind regards,
Webnext

And for all of you a very happy new year

I am cutting and pasting in a whisky fog, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Chassis Number Interpretation

The last eight characters of the chassis number can indicate when it was made.
The eighth character in from the right of the serial number is the manufacturing year letter.
The characters to the right of this define the model and other information.

Start........R J 011 783 END
Year Plant Model Build
Code Code Number

Year Codes V6 Manufactured V8 Manufactured
G 1986 S1 - 1 -
H 1987 S1 - 89 -
J 1988 S1 - 515 -
K 1989 S2 - 421 -
L 1990 S2 - 618 -
M 1991 S3 - 467 V8S - 208
N 1992 S3 - 49 V8S - 173
P 1993 S4 - 34 V8S - 34
R 1994 S4 - ? V8S - ?
TOTAL V6S - 2194 V8S - 415

Note the build number refers to ALL CARS TVR MADE THAT YEAR not just S's.

Hello tinks v8S,

Sometimes indeed I think it must be a S4. Another detail is the bonnet, it is from a V8!

What it seems you have is the 34rd car built by the factory in that production year.

S3 & S4 original bonnets are from a variety of designs. S3 type with side slits like Chimaera, V8S style etc.

Some additional photos might help ?

It is a V8S bonnet definitely.

Orig registered in UK sometime between Aug 92 to July 93.

So presumably yours is the 34th car built in 1993. The table in the bible says that all 34 S4's and no S3's were built in 93, so yours is I assume an S4.

Maybe, its a TVR after all.

Hallo Mark,

S4 should have battery in the boot and rear discs, see also :

Han

edit : in the last picture it looks like your car has rear drums : S3(c)

Hi all,

Correct, rear drums and the battery in front of the car, so it looks like a S3C with V8 bonnet.
Strange car isn't it? especially the gap between building the car in 1993 en the UK license plate registerd in 1996!
What happens in the meantime, unsold or unfinished?

Why do you think it was unregistered until '96 ? confused

To clarify the vagaries of the old UK system. If the K plate shown in the photos is its original registration mark it will have been first registered in the UK some point between Aug 1st 92 and 31st July 93.

Hi Tubbystu,

The other information about the UK registration was from Chris52 on PH in October, see below.

According to the DVLA the car was first regisered on K183 EGM in UK in 1999 but declared manufactured 1993 and was licenced here til 2003 if thats any help.

Hello all,

Still searching for the history of my S series TVR. Read the Steve Heath [The TVR S series, second edition] twice and in the picture you see a new detail. I removed the cover of the steering column and? the letter R.

Details until now:
Registered as S3C
V8 Bonnet
S4/V8 dashboard
Vin code PL011034 (1993)
According to the DVLA the car was first regisered on K183 EGM in UK in 1999 but declared manufactured 1993 and was licenced here till 2003
This car is LHD
Battery in front
Disk breaks on the rear

It looks like a production mix, such as a S3C chassis planned as a S4 or V8 and finished much later than 1994?
Is there anything to say about the real production year and/or model?

Regards,
Marcel
