Ignoring the Milton Keynes bit, is the actual establishment any good?

Going there for dinner this Saturday evening and am wandering what to expect. Cousin of mine has booked this for a large group.

The company will be fine, but just wandering what to expect of the food/service.

Thanks

I live in MK.

The Jaipur is one of the most popular Indians round here but I find it's a bit style over substance.

The restaurant itself is huge and very comfortable but I've always found the food to be good rather than excellent.

I prefer the Mysore in Newport Pagnell personally.

I live crawling distance from jaipur, i can even see how busy it is from my lounge window

It's nice, decent food, nice decor!

However last time I went the service was terrible, we contemplated not paying! Having to order drinks 3-4 times and wait 75 min for our main course

When I go to the Porsche Autojumble at Husbourne in Cawley I go to Jalori in Woburn Sands. I like it, but it might be the novelty, Indian Restaurants are not that profilic here in Ireland. Not too far from MK>

Thanks all for the input so far. Seems like a mixed bag...

Unfortunately the venue can't be changed, but I will be reporting back on my experience after Saturday. Hoping it is a good one.

As a side note, the person that has booked this up knows the head chef very well. The chef has said that he will be preparing food for our group which is not on the menu. How much of that translates into good food, I am interested to find out.

The bar is set quite high...

Jaipur is fine. Style over substance only if you're a serious curry-head, I think, anyone else will liek it. I do, anyway.

Another vote for style over substance here. My favourite in the area is the Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford.

The largest purpose built indian restaurant in the UK apparently... That aside the food is good but ill agree with the above. Definately more about the style, but I cant fault the food and I used to go there a lot when I lived down the road..

last time I went it was really good, great service, good food, quite reasonably priced. It was about 1989, though, when it was still in part of the station buildings.

It made its name initially when it was right by the station and commuters would ring ahead and get an order delivered to the station platform, quickly dash off the train to pay, then tuck in once back onboard, word soon spread from there. Funnily enough, the curry house that is now in the old building (La Hind) actually does a much better curry now.

Make sure you wear trousers.

Wasn't it the place that made the national news last year when a guy turned up in shorts and then refused to put on the 'spare trousers' that the management had in reserve for slovenly oafs?

Good for them, I think places should have standards

They certainly do have a no shorts policy, so I can believe that.

surely if it was that good it would be the most popular thing on the menu...
