I'd like to relocate the battery to the boot and have a couple of questions:

1) I've seen pics of a smaller (gel?) battery for the Chim (located above the fuel tank) can someone tell me which one is suggested/recommended?

2) I'm assuming it would be ok to extend the positive cable through to the boot and connect a negative cable to an earthing point at the rear of the chassis - is there anything I should be aware of in doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Not sure about the location or difficulty but the best battery would be the AGM technology from someone like Bosch. These units are used on all new cars where Stop-Start technology is used.

This means the battery really is good for all conditions, not cheap but I would recommend.

Fitted to cars such as:

Bentley GT
Porsche Cayenne
Audi
Mini

Brilliant!!!!

Thanks for that Andy: it was your pic that I'd seen that got me thinking about it in the first place!

I must say that my first impression was that my loom wouldn't reach the passenger cubby box, but yours has so I'll re-visit that idea once again.

Is there any reason for extending the negative cable through to the boot, as it's simpler to just pick up an earth from the rear of the chassis - or am I missing something???

I ran a new cable from the battery negative to the existing earth point as I wanted to keep the same earth point on the chassis as there are several other cables that are earthed there, & there can never then be any issues with differing earth potentials.
However in reality if you select another point on the main chasssis & get it clean then it should be fine.

I'm looking at the same relocation and have bought the 925 from Odyssey batteries.

I've relocated the ECU under the dash on Sunday and think I'll leave the fusebox where it is for now as its nowhere near anyone's feet as its so far back and more accessible than it was.

There are several threads on battery relocation and one refers to picking up an earth on the chassis at the rear. Have a search and you'll find lots more info.
