Sorry for the off topic but, google searches and the like do not answer my question:-

I was in a small tea shoppe (quaint) in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago that had a sign on the wall saying that they had no toilets available for customer use!

I always thought that if you served food/drink you had to have toilets? am I right?

Did not have the confidence in my recall to challenge them about it but I really felt like reporting it to the tourist office (they were arrogant as well).

Thanks
Nick

That was my understanding too. Don't know if its "official" though.

There's a place in Chippenham with the message "We do not have any toilet facilities. We apologise for the inconvenience this lack of convenience causes"

Some of the very small McD's or KFC branches have no facilities so perhaps if the establishment is below a certain size they can get away with no bogs.

I think it is down to whether or not people can sit and eat the food on site. If they can I am pretty sure you need toilets, if not you don't. That I think is how the little take away only KFCs get away with none...

So a cafe certainly should have toilets!

it's compulsory if they provide 12 or more seats. (or there abouts)

Thanks all,
There were definately more than 12 seats although it was about the size of a large dog-kennel.

If I'm in a bad mood next week I may go and have an arguement. But may well be in a good mood as the Reg for my car is due today, so first outing tomorrow!

Cheers

That's Cornwall for you!!!

(Before I get flamed - the GFs folks live in Cornwall, and we go there loads - and I love it!)

But they don't do themselves any favours - for a county that's primary income is tourism, they do some very odd things!!

I thought it went off the size of the building. i.e. big stores like B&Q and ASDA have to have them, but ye smalle coffee shoppee wouldn't have them.

Nice one Nick - good to hear you've got it on the road now, just in time for the summer as well

Best of luck with it.
