Hi,

I'm after a nice romantic meal for an anniversary in Harrogate if possible so we can both have a drink.

Normally do the orchid but fancy a change. Really stuggle in Harrogate to know where to go........

Any ideas? Quite like Italian and French food.

Will drive for fab. meal tho.

B.e.D.

Run by a friend - Dave Burns - but highly recommended regardless. See if you can get the chef's table.

You really are spoiled in Harrogate.

As Rich says, the Hotel du Van is very good and very posh, but very expensive. Bed I have yet to go but, for a superb little restaurant with excellent food and the owners that make you feel very very welcome (Arlene has dragged a bottle of, not on the wine list, Faustino 1 out her her private stash for me on a couple of occasions)... then Sage, jst a couple of minutes from the town centre.

Quantro is also very good down on Montpellier roundabout and Van Zeller's is supposed to be excellent although again, we have yet to go.

Oh, and how's this for romantic smile

I took Louise to Sage on Valentine's night and they could not have done anything more or anything better. Right down to the little touches, a perfect evening.

Thanks for the replys!

Those look good! Want somewhere where we can get dressed up and have a nice meal, not too fussed price wise.

As said above bed is nice but more somewhere I would just go spur of the moment and not for a special meal.

I was wondering whether Sage Bistro is located where Biscaya Bay used to be and it is. I must try it as it sounds pretty good. It's quite a funky, intimate little spot, a bit like dining in someones living room (which it was prior to being a restaurant). I remember some strange "off the wall" conversations with Alex Alzuri at Biscaya Bay. Strange chap. Glad to see it's seemingly gone to good operators.

I agree with Sasso for Italian, or San Martino next to The Orchid. Both are quite intimate settings. If you like French cuisine there's Chez La Vie. You can register at www.gravy-train.co.uk and print off a 20% discount coupon which is nice (it might cover the price of some bubbly silly )

The Clocktower at Rudding Park tries hard at fine dining (but fails on occassion in my experience), so Du Vin might be a better option if you want to dress up. Although a good way out of Harrogate, by shear accident whilst hooning around the dales last weekend, we dropped on Yorebridge House in Bainbridge (near Leyburn) in Wensleydale. What a truly sensational bit of fortune. The food was exceptional, great wine list and the owners David & Charlotte were kind enough to show us around the unique rooms. Truly an exceptional find and worthy of a visit if you really want to impress your other half. www.yorebridgehouse.com

I'd forgotten about the Drum & Monkey, haven't been for - must be 15 years. I'll try to get there again this year.
