If there’s anything that unites the PH community, it's a love for fast wagons. So we’re kicking off today’s episode of The Gassing Station podcast by running through our recent countdown of the best performance estates you can buy in 2026, covering all the key price points in the process. There are options for as little as £5,000 like this Mk3 Ford Focus ST Estate, all the way up to this Alpina D3 S Touring and a Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Estate. We won’t spoil the whole list, but yes, Skoda and Volvo are both represented, with the latter holding its value surprisingly well. You can read the full story and see all the listings here, and feel free to pop your own suggestions below.
Meanwhile, our buying challenge of the week comes from brockovrs, who is looking to replace their Ford Mustang GT with something that looks and sounds just as good, but with better ergonomics. With up to £50,000 to play with for the ‘absolute perfect car’, Sam chose this epic Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Motorsport Edition for £49,975. It may be right on the budget limit, but it meets most of brockovrs’s criteria and is mighty rare with only 23 being built. I, on the other hand, have chosen this excellent 997.1 Porsche 911 Turbo for £49,995. It does without the creature comforts brockovrs is looking for, but it’s a PDK and, for a 480hp 911, is more accessible than most of its rivals. If you think those are rubbish, you can drop your own suggestions in the topic here.
To wrap things up, we take a trip down memory lane with 360boy’s ‘try to trace your old car’ topic. Incredibly, it was started 20 years ago, and sees the occasional post from PHers looking to track down cars they (or their dad) once owned. It’s packed full of sentimental stories and, amazingly, a few occasions where current owners have responded to previous keepers. Have a good look through the topic, as you may have something that another PHer is looking for, but given there’s north of 30 pages to sift through you may want to give the pod a listen first.
