Electric Audi sports car has 300+ hp
The quad electric motor-powered
Audi E-Tron concept
revealed at the Frankfurt motor show last month will form the basis of a new production model, according to latest reports from the US.
The production future for the sportily styled machine has been confirmed by Audi US president Johan de Nysschen, who has been quoted in the US media saying "I expect we will see running prototypes in the next 24 months".
The two-seat E-Tron has its four electric motors mounted in the wheel hubs, and features lightweight plastic body panels attached to an aluminium spaceframe.
It has been confirmed for production, says US boss
Looking something like a cross between the TT and R8 models, the electric coupe actually fits midway between the pair in terms of its size. Power comes from a lithium-ion battery pack mounted where the R8's engine slots in, and with a quoted 309bhp and over 3000lb ft of torque - combined with four wheel electric drive - it's likely to go pretty well too. The whole package weighs 1600kgs.
Audi claims a 4.8sec 0-62mph time and a range of 155 miles for the concept, but whether the two figures are mutually compatible remains to be seen.
