Here’s something you don’t see everyday: a new car company, Milan Automotive, has revealed its first car with the extravagant, not-at-all-click-bait claim that it will offer a level of performance to rival the Bugatti Chiron - despite using half the number of engine cylinders and two-wheel drive.
Milan Automotive’s Red, set to cost close to €2 million, has a mid-mounted, quad-turbocharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that provides the rear wheels with 1325hp and 1033lb ft of torque. Using a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, the firm claims a 2.47sec 0-62mph sprint time is possible, which would rank the Red directly alongside the significantly better gunned Chiron. Pinch of salt, anyone?
As if those claims weren’t enough, the car’s three drive models are called Glide, Hunt and Attack. They link the car to the bird of prey it’s named after, apparently. Mmm.
Of course, there's always the chance we're being too harsh on Austria-based Milan Automotive. The firm said the car uses an all carbonfibre structure, made in partnership with Austrian firm Peak Technology, which has worked with Formula 1 teams. It’s also got carbonfibre reinforced polymer wishbones at the front and rear with titanium wheel hubs, so there’s a credible setup beneath that, um, unique exterior.
Milan Automotive said it has already received 18 orders for the Red, of which 99 units are planned for production. The company’s CEO, Markus Fux, said the cars would be built with intention of “stealing the show”. While he doesn’t go into any more detail, the press pictures feature the Red in a private jet hanger, hinting (with all the subtlety of a forest fire) at the sort of clientele the company wants to attract.
Whether the firm has bitten off more than it can chew - or is in fact the second coming reincarnate - remains to be seen. The body count for wannabe hypercar builders is naturally high, but with the likes of Brabham on the cusp of proper product launch, stranger things have happened. Over to you, Mr Fux.
