The VW Caddy pick-up has always been a bit of a cult favourite among the surf and outdoors sports fraternity. So news of VW building another one, one with a 250hp V6 motor no less, initially sounds quite exciting.
And then you see it. Sadly those hoping for a successor to the much loved original are going to be a little disappointed to learn that the new age Caddy pick-up is, basically, a Caddy Kombi with the rear quarter chopped away. A friend of WorldCarFans snapped the car at the Poznan motor show, the concept on display there alongside, apparently, a stretched limo Caddy with a TV and minibar. The clue to the inspiration for both perhaps in the latter.
Modded Caddys have a cult following here
Poznan is also home to the factory where the Caddy is built, suggesting a bit of fun on the part of the team there after a few too many vodkas. Who's to deny them that, even if the result does smack slightly of the drunk texting school of show car construction. A spokesman for VW's UK commercial vehicle division said "We haven't heard of anything like that at the Poznan show," before adding, "but sometimes we do get surprises!"
If you want a proper Caddy pick-up, meanwhile, the £1,250 asked for this 'well worn' example in the PH classifieds suggests fashion does come with a price. And a load bed full of snow. Consider it a blank canvas (or bottomless money pit, possibly) for all your rat look, stretched BBS-wheeled fantasies. Or if you'd rather a more finished example you could have this pre-modded, SEAT engined example for double the money.
