"I've always had two cars but then got to the point where I bought a house and needed just one car. This car does everything for me. I do a lot of windsurfing and mountain-biking, stuff like that so I needed something with a big boot, where the seats go down. I can put a roof rack on this too which you can't with a lot of cars. I also need to use it for work and meet customers and it looks like just another BMW to most people so that's good. It's a good all-rounder for me, that's the main reason."
Which things do you love most?
"I think the DCT actually. It's the first time I've had an automatic having always thought 'I must have a manual, I must have a manual'. But once I got used to the DCT in this I loved it."
And which things do you hate?
"I think the sound of it. The only problem with the M3 for me was the noise when I first bought it so it's been changed for the BMW M Performance exhaust. It makes it sound like proper V8 really."
How do you find the costs?
"I've had a couple of little niggles sorted under warranty but it's been fine really. BMW have been really good with the dealers. Tyres probably last about 10,000 miles and they've been the main expense."
Where have you been in your M3?
"Nowhere with this yet. I'd like to track it soon, somewhere like Bedford probably. I went out to the Nurburgring last year in my R8 but it scared me silly! I think I need to get the M3 on track though. I live in London and driving round there is no fun."
What next?
"Staying as it is for now actually, it's pretty good out of the box I think. I want to see and drive an M4 first but I could be tempted down that road!"
