It was hard to imagine wanting much more from a McLaren 570S, its blend of huge performance and sublime handling a real tonic for the junior supercar sector. But then came the 600LT, improving on it in virtually every way. Surely, with everything good about the Sports Series ratcheted up, nobody could need more from their McLaren. Turns out they do...
While Pogea Racing's latest '666s' project is based on the 570S rather than the Longtail, it should comfortably surpass both in terms of performance. With the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 treated to a new exhaust and ECU rework, the Pogea car is said to be producing - you guessed it - 666hp, almost 100hp from standard and 66hp more than the LT. With 590lb ft of torque as well (which matches a Senna), it should be no surprise to find extraordinary acceleration claims: 0-62mph is said to take 2.9 seconds, 0-124 just 7.9 and the top speed is said to be 207mph. You would hope that proves fast enough for even the most demanding owners...
Tweaks elsewhere include the fitment of KW V3 coilovers, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and Pogea's own 'Jules' 20-inch wheels. The suggestion those mods give is of a more track focused Sports Series, if not one quite as single minded as the 600LT. The exhaust is worthy of a mention, too; it might not shoot flames out of the rear decklid, but it does promise Euro6 and TUV compliance in all modes and reduced engine temperatures thanks to new integral insulation. Not just for making a racket in the promo vid, you see.
Pogea is offering the '666s' upgrades as a package, rather than a run of completed cars, and it costs 11,000 Euros including VAT. With early cars now out of warranty and nearing £80,000, we wouldn't blame anyone for being tempted...
