Two-wheel-drive Lambo: is less more?
These are images to get the heart of any true petrolhead racing (if you'll forgive the mixed-up analogy), because what you see before you are photographs of a rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini, leaked ahead of the car's official unveiling.
Technical details of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 are sketchy, but the name - and Lambo's recent naming scheme - strongly suggests that the new car will have 550hp (542bhp) and two-wheel drive. Since it's pretty hard to imagine a front-wheel-drive Lamborghini, rear-drive is a pretty safe bet.
Reports suggest the LP550-2 will be around 30kg lighter the LP560-4, so it should be good for a sprint to 60mph of less than 4.0secs and a top speed knocking on the door of 200mph, despite the mild (10hp) drop in power over the LP560-4.
Best of all, though, is the interior picture, which shows an open-gated manual 'box. Could this be a three-pedal-only Lamborghini?
Either way, only 250 examples are expected to be produced, at a price of around £135,000 - 10 per cent less than the Gallardo LP560-4.
