Silverstone Auctions' Race Retro sale featured an abundance of fantastic cars. PH had covered a few of them beforehand, from the 600hp
Lister XJS
Delta Integrale
with 30 recorded miles and the immaculate
Alfa SZ
. The auction results are certainly interesting...
£50-70K expected, sold for £85,000
The Delta Integrale went unsold, as did the Ferrari 575M Superamerica and the excellent Lynx Eventer that caught our attention before the sale. So if you couldn't make it to the auction there may be the opportunity to buy a very special Lancia.
Aside from the Superamerica, it was a very successful sale for the other Ferrari lots. The 456M with just 400 miles sold for £118,125, nearly £30K above its highest estimate and a record for 456s at auction. The Testarossa with 960 recorded miles and a £130-150,000 estimate made £202,500. And a 308 GTB went for comfortably more than its estimate too, the hammer coming down at £61,313 despite £47-52,000 being predicted.
Furthermore, if not bargains then there were a few cars that sold for less than expected. The wild Lister Jaguar XJS only just scraped through its estimate at £38,813 and the beautiful Alfa 1750 GTV did similarly at £16,650. Each of the three Lotus Cortinas offered sold at less than their estimates.
Consignments are now being invited for the Silverstone's Restoration Show sale in March. The lot list is small currently but then so is our current favourite, this lovely little Abarth 595.
