The sheer proliferation of Nurburgring-related stories has rendered us all a little blase about the latest lap time. Thanks to estates running under eight minutes and a plain old 911 Carrera clocking 7:40, it's all too easy to become dismissive about yet another 12.9 miles.
Some definitely warrant attention though. Like this one. It's a Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV, a car being launched to the media very soon, lapping the Nordschleife in 6:59. Six minutes and fifty nine seconds. Or two seconds off the 918 Spyder, 15 seconds quicker than a Lexus LFA Nurburgring and only 11 seconds off the road car record held by the Radical SR8 LM. Regardless of whether you care about these things or not, that's a phenomenal achievement.
The video says the lap was completed on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres with no mention of modifications. We'll give Lamborghini the benefit of the doubt now and assume the additional downforce from that new wing and front end has really paid off! It's a video to savour, no doubt.
