It's fair to say Formula E didn't really capture the imagination of PH in its first season; ordinary tracks, the lack of noise and fairly slow cars have been the main criticisms.
Official Jag motorsport has been away for a while!
However, it is attracting major manufacturer interest. Alongside Renault and Audi, it has now been suggested that Jaguar wants to enter Formula E. Intriguing...
As present, there is nothing official. Best to clear that up from the start. Sky News has suggested that a press conference next week will confirm Jaguar's entry into the championship. If it does happen, it will be the first major motorsport entry for Jaguar since the F1 campaign ended in 2004. So much for the F-Type GT3 then...
The logic behind the move is to advance the development of Jaguar's EV vehicle range; win on Sunday, sell on Monday takes on a new meaning in the 21st century! Jaguar is said to be teaming up with Williams for the Formula E car, that partnership of course well established from the C-X75 hybrid project. Remember too that the F-Type coupe concept, the C-X16, was also a hybrid. Those are certainly the electric Jaguars we would like to see first, rather than the electric SUV that has been rumoured. Expect that at Paris next year.
Sky's info comes from a Jaguar insider who added: "It offers live testing for electrification technologies in areas such as batteries and drive-trains; that's why it looks valuable to them."
Would you show more interest in Formula E with a Jaguar entry? Would you be interested in an electric Jaguar? Does this mean an F-Type GT3 really will not happen? Many questions to answer and many details to be confirmed; we'll bring you an update as soon as possible!
