We're all inspired by the cars of our childhood, and that truism even extends to Christian von Koenigsegg. A family friend once owned a Lotus Excel SE, a sports car best known for being able to (just about) transport four people. Fast forward a few decades and von Koenigsegg has been able to update the Excel idea with the Gemera. By quite a lot. Like when the plane idea was updated with Concorde.
You'll probably be familiar with the Gemera, Koenigsegg's revolutionary four-seater unveiled at the Not Geneva show earlier this year. It promises a quite staggering combination of talents: a mid-engined supercar with 1,700hp (including a 2.0-litre three-cylinder with 600hp), the ability to carry four adults with luggage and a pure electric top speed of 186mph. Mr Koenigsegg describes the Gemera as "having your cake and eating it too" - a compromise-free supercar.
This video is our best look at the new Koenigsegg yet, and perhaps its most incredible party trick: the ability to fit four adults - four adults well over six foot, it should be said - comfortably and easily. It really is remarkable, seeing four blokes who'd probably just about squeeze into an M5 get settled in this 250mph supercar. It looks no harder than any other four-seater, because those amazing doors - the Koenigsegg trademark, just much larger than we're used to - afford such great access.
Sadly there's no video yet demonstrating the phenomenal acceleration - 0-124mph is promised in less than five seconds - but that will surely follow in time. And we all know from previous exploitsthat Koenigsegg isn't trying to dupe anybody with its outrageous performance claims. So there's plenty more to look forward to as the Gemera nears production and, if this is anything to go by, plenty more to be completely dumbfounded by as well. What else did you expect from Koenigsegg?
