Since MSO’s inception in 2011, it hasn’t taken long for any new McLaren model to fall victim to the division’s expertise. By offering “an almost limitless level of customisation where imagination is the only restrictive factor” the company has opened something of a Pandora’s box, allowing the desires of its wealthy customers - be they lifelong visions or fleeting whims - to be realised in all their glory, or lack thereof.
By now you’ll know all about the upcoming 570S-based 600LT. As McLaren’s lightest road-legal car yet, the 600hp longtail takes just 2.9 seconds to get to 62mph - 0.3 seconds quicker than the standard car - before going on to a top speed of over 200mph. As with the 675 before it, though, the 600LT’s main focus is on dynamic ability rather than outright speed. Weighing in at just 1,247kg, the 600LT produces 100kg of downforce at 155mph thanks to a new carbon fibre splitter, diffuser and rear wing, while lightweight wheels with Trofeo R tyres further aid traction. You get the gist.
So, what makes this version so special? Well, as with so many cars of this echelon these days, it boils down to two words: carbon fibre. The roof - as well as a new F1 LT-inspired roof scoop with integrated camera - is made of the stuff, as are the front louvres, wing mirrors, rear bumper, rear deck and super-lightweight racing seats (which have been borrowed from the Senna). Ultra-lightweight (which is presumably better than super) 10-spoke forged alloy wheels complete the package.
The whole thing is painted Stealth Grey with Matt Black and McLaren Orange accents, mirrored inside by McLaren Orange contrast stitching with a central tunnel and door inserts made from, you guessed it, carbon fibre. Meanwhile, 600LT logos embroidered on the headrests and etched into the throttle pedal set everything off nicely, and a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system negates a few kilograms of weight saving, but who can really blame them?
There’s no word on whether all that weight reduction has had any effect on performance, though no doubt more detail will be released when the global reveal of MSO’s latest creation takes place at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
