As the E46 generation of BMW M3 moves ever closer to classic status, the amount of track car builds based on them is likely to fall. The days of picking up a decent car for less than £10k - heck, the days when you could buy a less than perfect one for
little more than half that
- are sadly behind us, as the market begins to appreciate the significance of that car's gorgeous straight six, muscular good looks and fine dynamics.
Fortunately PHer 'Track_M3' purchased his Estoril Blue E46 at the end of 2012, when prices were somewhat more palatable. Since then he has set about turning it into a pretty serious looking track car, even if he admits that it did happen somewhat inadvertently. So along with the usual tweaks to exhaust, brakes, wheels and tyres, this PHer's M3 also has a spring-loaded CAE gear shifter, carbon panels and a new Wavetrac differential. As mentioned it's a serious project!
Pleasingly, 'Track_M3' - known as Sam elsewhere, it would seem - has crammed his thread full of pics and videos of his M3, detailing where it's been and what he's doing next. At the moment he's content with how the cars stands - and has every reason to be happy, by the looks of it - though we can't wait to see what else is going to happen. 'Track_M3', yours is a very cool M3 track car build, and our pick for Reader's Car of the Week this Friday - congratulations!
