The Christians in Motorsport Ferrari 430 of Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen scored a double win at Croft to put Lester into contention for the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship title.
For the first time in 2007 an all Ascari front row was split at the first corner by the charging Aston Martin of Guy Harrington. Hector Lester made a steady start in the Ferrari from 12th but as soon as Simonsen climbed aboard at the pitstops the Ferrari started to slice through the opposition, eventually taking the lead despite the resistance of Ben de Zille Butler, who was now at the wheel of the championship-leading Aston.
Fast-starting Aston takes a place
Godfrey Jones took the final podium place for Ascari ahead of championship contenders Bradley Ellis and Alex Mortimer in the Dodge Viper.
Race 2 was straightforward, with a lights to flag victory from pole for the CiM Ferrari. Simonsen took the first stint, maintaining a good lead until his pitstop, despite an early safety car period. Hector Lester then drove his best race of the season to take the win. Guy Harrington stormed through the field from 12th at the pitstops to finish in second place, putting himself and Ben de Zille Butler at the top of the table by just one point.
A non-finish for Ellis and Mortimer puts them eight points behind the leaders and just one point ahead of Hector Lester. With two races, and twenty points, remaining the championship is far from over.
One title was wrapped up at Croft however, with Barwell Motorsport securing the GT3 team title.
