RTR Vehicles – the firm headed by 2010 Formula Drift champ Vaughn Gittin Jr. – is celebrating a decade in business with a 760hp take on the Ford Mustang. Dubbed the 10th Anniversary Spec 5, just 10 cars will be produced, each with a Phase 2 supercharger kit mounted onto Ford’s 5.0-litre V8, bringing performance into line with the likes of souped up Roush cars and Shelby’s bonkers 5.2-litre GT500.
RSR (for Ready to Rock) and project partner Lebanon Ford Performance have, of course, uprated other parts of the V8 and driveline to handle the enormous jump in punch, but what’s arguably most significant is the attention paid to the chassis. Emulating Gittin’s Mustang drift machines – he won in a ‘Stang back in 2010 – RSR’s new car gets a widebody kit and enlarged tracks, adjustable coilovers and anti-roll bars. Forged RTR Aero 7 wheels come wrapped in Nitto NT555 G2 rubber, a boot that’s popular both in the drifting community and with tuned Mustang owners in the States.
Adding to that lot is a list of exterior parts that – aside from the flashes of fluorescent – actually remain quite subtle for something developed at a drift firm. There’s a new lower front grille, a more complex rear diffuser and thicker rear wing, as well as bonnet vents and larger side skirts. Overall, though, it’s the widened stance and exposed riveting that give the Spec 5 its added purpose and presence. Dare we say it, the car looks excellent, albeit only as a render for now.
Vaughn Gittin Jr. said the 10th Anniversary Spec 5 is "the most epic representation of what RTR stands for: modern aggressive styling, easily drivable smile-inducing power, adjustable performance to suit customers' needs, and overall just the right enhancements that an owner needs to stand out from the crowd”. It affirms that this isn’t just another aftermarket firm’s mad creation to make headlines, but a product of a company tied to motorsport.
We’ve not been given pricing yet, but given that Lebanon Ford Performance (in Ohio, not the Middle East) was involved in the project, the figure may not be as high as you’d expect. That firm’s 735hp F-150 pick-up recent went on sale for $40,000, just over £32k(!), emphasising the bang per buck possible here. That being said, only 10 RTR 10th Anniversary Spec 5s are to be made, and each will receive a bespoke finish, with a signed dash plaque to finish it all off. That’s plenty of car for Gittin fans looking to emulate their hero.
