Nobody could accuse Ford of forgetting its glorious petrol-powered past as it embarks upon an all electric future. As if to prove the point, here's another GT - the Holman Moody Heritage Edition - that celebrates the 1966 Le Mans victory just one last time for good luck. It follows the '66 Heritage Edition, the '67 Heritage Edition, the Alan Mann Heritage Edition, the '68 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition and the '69 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition (they are two different cars, honest). That's not even the end of the GT special editions, but we'll spare you the rest for now. Suffice it to say Ford has always been keen to celebrate those historic successes. Those with a regular GT might have the rarest edition of all...
Anyway, the GT HM HE. The Holman Moody GT40 was the third-placed car in the 1966 Le Mans triumph, painted just like this one in Holman Moody Gold with reg and white accents. It will be shown at the upcoming New York show with the actual Le Mans car, chassis P/1016, the GT40 that was subjected to months of development after 1965 to create a race winning car for the '66 Le Mans. Additional changes for this Heritage Edition over a standard Ford GT include extra gold bits inside, the '5' roundel like the race car, and seemingly even more carbon fibre.
Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager, said of the new car: "Of all the Ford GT Heritage Edition liveries we've done, the Holman Moody Heritage Edition's can't-miss signature gold and red theme is an epic tribute to our 1966 Le Mans finish... Inspired by one of the most well-known Ford GT40 race cars, this latest Ford GT honours the Holman Moody race team's knowhow and ability to out-innovate global competitors." Like the other Heritage Editions, the Holman Moody is mechanically identical to a standard GT, though with a carbon tub and more than 650hp, the GT's supercar credentials have never been in doubt.
Ford says that, following the New York reveal, the Holman Moody Heritage Edition will be available for "approved" Ford GT customers, though you'd have to assume they might have enough Ford GTs by now. First deliveries are due later in the spring. Those that aren't on the list might be intrigued by this GT instead, which we'll call the 'Supplied New To A Current F1 Team Member' Edition. Can't be many of those. It's been driven just 500 miles and is yours for £695,000.
