The AJP8-powered Melling Wildcat has been reduced to the same price as a TVR Griffith in the mid-nineties, it has been announced.
Melling is happy to admit that the car is aimed at those who would have once bought a TVR and the Wildcat comes with an updated version of the AJP8. The Melling AJP8 packs 410bhp and the unit was developed in Tuscan racing over 20 years.
The base price of a Wildcat is now £30,000, a reduction of 30% off the car’s original price, and the company said the move was an ‘aggressive bid to kick-start sales’.
‘It’s no secret that times are tough,’ said company chief Al Melling.
'Maybe we’re crazy to launch a car at a time like this, people are certainly hesitant about buying high-performance cars right now. But we’ve had huge interest in the Wildcat, and lots of visitors to the factory.
'We believe that pricing the Wildcat to undercut cars like the Porsche Boxster – while offering a far more powerful V8 engine – should really get things moving.’
