With June now little more than a couple of weeks away, the platinum jubilee party spirit will be in full swing very soon. But McLaren has got there early with this, a one-off Artura dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II.
This isnโt just jumping the gun for some extra publicity ahead of next month, either. May 12th, 2022 marks 18 years exactly since Her Majesty opened the MTC in Woking, so there really was no better day for it. The Platinum Jubilee paint on this Artura has been developed with McLarenโs coating partner AkzoNobel; the process went as far as analysing different light conditions โto define the most suitable metallic pigment combinationโ. The relevant testing and development for the paint took eight days. The โElizabeth IIโ badge is an MSO creation which required a bespoke tool and press to make. No half measures for the sovereign.
Furthermore, while the badge is understandably staying unique to this Artura, the Platinum Jubilee paint will become a customer option. Ansar Ali, MSO MD, said of the new car: โIt has been an honour for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majestyโs Platinum Jubilee this year. This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone.โ
Which is all well and good, yes; but for those thinking that a silver supercar, however lovingly created, doesnโt feel very regal, you arenโt alone. To really celebrate the platinum jubilee in style, how about this? Itโs a 1960 Rolls Royce Phantom V Park Ward Limousine, once the transport for Nigeriaโs High Commissioner in London and sporting the same colour scheme - Masons Black over Royal Garnet - as the Queenโs Phantom VI of the time. Lovely. Itโs yours for ยฃ125,000โฆ
