There’s good cause to be pretty excited about the new Maserati GranTurismo, what with its suave new look, MC20-donated V6 and fascinating EV flagship. That the mid-engined supercar has been received so well gives us high hopes for the imminent arrival of the new GT.
This will be the GranTurismo offered to the first few customers; the PrimaSerie - quite literally ‘first edition’ in Italian - is based on the most powerful combustion-engined model, the 550hp Trofeo, and celebrates 75 years of Maserati GTs. As such, just 75 will be produced, which does make the PrimaSerie a fair bit rarer than most launch specs. (Although actually there will be 150 in total, as there are 75 examples of each colour specification.)
One is inspired by the Officine Alfieri Maserati, matt grey - sorry, Grigio Lamiera Matte - with red details and black wheels, 20-inch at the front and 21s at the rear. The other is described as ‘an out-of-this-world declaration of performance’, in matt black with mint green accents. Pretty out there for Maserati not that long ago, but in the world of Fuoriserie - its personalisation department - this is pretty restrained.
Both get a mild interior overhaul as well, with the colours used outside mirrored for the cabin, including stitches and badges. There’s no wild upholstery here, as befits the more mature remit of a GranTurismo. Does looks a nice step up from recent Maserati interiors, though.
A UK allocation for the PrimaSerie hasn’t yet been confirmed, though there clearly won’t be many - if any - given the tiny overall run. We’re still waiting on any pricing information in fact, though with the international launch now in full swing those numbers can’t be far away.
And if the GranTurismo delivers on its potential, we’ll take one in matt mint green with black accents - after all, the world has been waiting a while for a truly great Maserati GT.
