If not perfect flagships, the world is a better place for the Maserati Trofeo range. The 580hp, 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 is a masterpiece of an engine, so even if neither Quattroporte, Ghibli or Levante are top of their respective classes, they are made a heck of a lot cooler thanks to the upgrade. Come to think of it, there aren't many cars that wouldn't be more appealing with that V8.
Keen to cash in on the goodwill, Maserati has now created the MC Edition for all three Trofeo models. The Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante Maserati Corse Edition will be available in Giallo Corse and Blue Vittoria, as yellow and blue are the colours of Modena. We'd expect the "deep, impactful, new and contemporary" blue to prove more popular with Maserati buyers than the "sporty and advanced" yellow, but let's see. Additional cosmetic upgrades include Piano Black details, blue brake calipers, new badges and 21-inch wheels (22s on the Levante). All MC Editions get an electric sunroof, B&W stereo, and Driver Assistance Package as standard, too.
Promising "unprecedented performance and driving pleasure", the MC Edition Maseratis will go on sale later this month, with prices to follow. Expect a small premium over the £107,420 (Ghibli), £127,260 (Levante) and £130,140 (Quattroporte) asking prices for the standard cars, and deliveries in the next couple of months. Those who can forego the MC Edition niceties but still crave the V8 might want to check the classifieds, though - this Ghibli looks great in navy blue over tan, and sneaks in below six figures...
