Despite the obvious challenges presented by 2020, development of the C_Two hypercar continues apace, with company founder, Mate Rimac, suggesting that customer car production is on target for next year. Moreover, the firm suggests it has met or exceeded its original performance targets, which include a top speed of 258mph and 0-100mph in just 4.3 seconds.
Development of Rimac's new hypercar has now moved into the final stages, with the building of eight validation prototypes, a few of which can be seen in the firm's latest video. The film addresses the manufacturing of the carbonfibre monocoque, the testing of electrical systems and the enormously costly crashing of prototypes. The data collected now isn't just used to fine-tune the setup, it directly influences the final design for customer cars. In a 1,900hp all-wheel drive electric hypercar to rival the likes of Lotus’s Evija and Pininfarina’s Battista, the task is obviously prodigious - especially for a firm of Rimac's scale. Each car will cost £2 million.
Given all that, it's fascinating to be given such a close look at the underlying features of the C_Two, not least because Mate remains so passionate about the engineering behind it. The 32-year-old certainly knows his stuff – and a previous conversation with PH emphasised to us just how much of a true car fan he is. It's hard not to be buoyed by his enthusiasm.
So while there's no questioning how complicated the Rimac C_Two has been to build (something the video only serves to emphasise), the firm's passion and attention to detail suggests that the finished product ought to be just as special as we'd all hoped.
