For all of you currently foaming at the mouth over the Ruf CTR3 without the means to purchase one, Shed of the Week comes to the rescue with an alternative from Porsche’s past.
We’ve had to search very hard in Porsche’s back catalogue however, as the sportscarmeisters from Stuttgart aren’t too keen on people referring to this part of their history. The walls of Weissach are hardly dripping with beautifully-shot portraits of Porsche’s once entry-level model.
The pages of Autotrader however, most definitely are (well, happy-snaps at least). From the many around, we chose this example because the miles seemed low, and the retro brown/parquet interior put hairs on our chest just looking at it. We’re not too sure that it goes with the faded red paintwork though, or about the ‘slightly misaligned’ bumper either.
Just look at that interior...
Perhaps the base 924 never really got over having an engine lead a double life in a VW van – or the entire projects gestation with VW for that matter. Having ‘only’ four cylinders didn’t help placate the disbelievers either, although to mock is to forget what powered the firm’s products during its formative years.
For us, the Harm Lagaay penned styling has a quality of its own; it has ‘correct’-wheel drive, and for the price of a CTR3 alloy wheel you’ve a set of Porsche keys in your mitts. Surely that can’t be bad. Having said that, it’s possible we've simply stared at too many 924 Carrera GTR pictures to have a clue what we’re on about. Still, for our collective enjoyment, here’s another one anyway…
