With the meteoric rise of drifting, a certain type of car has become popular with oversteer obsessives: you want rear-wheel drive - obviously - with good weight distribution, plenty of power and a limited-slip diff for top level tomfoolery. Old BMWs, plus a few Japanese models that hark back to drifting's roots, tend to be the most desirable choices.
A Ferrari 599 GTB may not be the most obvious choice of drift weapon, but it does at least meet all the criteria stated above. Especially when it's twin supercharged, as Federico Sceriffo's is...
This drift project has been known about and in build for a while now, Top Gear having interviewed Sceriffo (with his dog) last year. Now the 599 is up and running in Formula Drift though, delivering as spectacular a show as you might expect from a 900hp V12 Ferrari. Everything about is kind of like a 599, but more so: more noise, more speed, more dramatic to look at, more ridiculous powerslides. It's bonkers. But is it brilliant?
There's an argument to say that cars as valuable and as rare as Ferraris shouldn't be modified in this way. If at all. Of course the counter is that this Sceriffo is entitled to do whatever the heck he likes with his car, and there's no denying the shock value of the finished product. A nice riposte to all those Ferraris kept away and driven 300 miles a year, too... Watch the video below and let us know your thoughts!
