Got your future car worry bingo card ready? Here we go: the H-Tron is an electric Audi crossover, drawing power from a hydrogen fuel cell and with lots of piloted driving tech. Yikes.
Coming to an A3 near you soon...
A few details, if you're still willing to read on. The four-wheel drive H-Tron has an electric motors on each axle, the front rated at 122hp (90kW) and the rear 190hp (140kW). Audi claims total power is 150hp (110kW) but with a "temporary boost" of up to 100kW (136hp) and a 0-62mph time of less than seven seconds.
The electric motors draw power from a hydrogen fuel cell, the tanks of which can be refuelled "safely and easily" in around four minutes. The range is said to up be up to 372 miles (600km).
If all that seems too futuristic, the autonomous driving tech is very much real: it previews the production tech that's going into the A8 in 2017. The 'central driver assistance controller' creates a real time model of the car in its surroundings for the assistance systems to work from. In the H-Tron it can park itself and function autonomously up to 37mph (60kph). You wouldn't need to do a thing on the drive to nursery!
For a more conventional new Audi that is actually available this year (we know how much you love them), there's the new A4 Allroad. Said to be "defined by its individual look" - according to Audi at least - this A4 has been subjected to a familiar Allroad overhaul. The arches are slightly flared, the cladding is finished in 'selenite silver' and the bumpers are tweaked to mark it out. There's even an optional tow hook. The ride height is raised fractionally (by 23mm) too, which when combined with larger wheels raises the ground clearance by 34mm. Add that to standard Quattro all-wheel drive and there won't be a single grassy mound that holds any fear for the Allroad driver.
Elsewhere it's standard A4, with a range of petrols and diesels from 150hp to 272hp and three (!) gearbox options: the six-speed manual, seven-speed dual clutch and eight-speed auto. The various modes, including the off-road one, are controlled through Audi drive select and there's ambient lighting in 30 different shades.
UK pricing and availability hasn't yet been announced for the A4 Allroad, but expect a slight premium over the Avant and a place in the showroom within the next few months. As for the H-Tron, which 'Q' model isn't allocated yet? A Q2 perhaps? You can't say Audi didn't warn us...
