While there’s no denying the popularity, it’s hard to take some of the BMW M Performance Parts seriously when they include silly spoilers for X3s and carbon mirror caps for an i5 Touring. This, on the other hand, looks much more like it. Though not available yet, BMW is prepping an extensive range of M Performance Parts for the latest M2. Teased on Instagram, it’s said to be a ‘street legal track day package.’
Very promising, and eminently logical. BMW has been making an M2 for almost 10 years, and now there’s surely not a track day pitlane in the country that doesn’t feature a straight-six 2 Series of some kind in it. Probably a modified one, in fact, a whole heap of M specialists able to offer up chassis, powertrain and brake improvements to make the most of a great base package. Having offered up piecemeal upgrades through the M Performance catalogue over the years, BMW now looks to be going all in on offering a Clubsport-style M2. Hopefully it arrives in time for the manual gearbox to be around.
Exact details haven’t been released yet, however there’s plenty to take from the Sao Paulo Yellow concept. Everywhere that’s camouflaged, basically, from touring car-spec spoiler to the snow plough up front. There’s even a natty red tow rope next to the numberplate, because no track car could possibly make do with the regular tow hook. The fact that the whole front end is covered up suggests that a significantly different look is coming, perhaps with additional carbon fibre or venting. The engine that sits under that bonnet, the 3.0-litre S58, seems unlikely to produce much more power for an MPP upgrade, given the standard car is 480hp strong - and the much more expensive CS only has 50hp more. That being said, given that engine seems to produce a few extra horsepower with some kind words whispered into its intake, 500hp shouldn’t be ruled out.
And check out the tyres. Sat on what looks like a new design of wheel is Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS rubber, which is about as close to a slick as a homologated road tyre gets. Pirelli says the RS is designed ‘for hypercars and supercars to primarily maximise dry performance on track through an ultra low profile and extreme new asymmetric tread pattern which provides high grip, excellent dry braking and optimal balance in dry handling, while maintaining consistency and durability.’ It’s extreme, that’s for sure. Those we can find for sale currently are £600 - each. In case any further deterrent was required for not skidding around a track day…
BMW says the M Performance Parts overhaul is currently at the Nurburgring (where else?), being pushed to the limit to ‘deliver pure performance’. There’s a #MadeToExpress hashtag and some strange replies from BMW M in the comments that must be AI, naturally. They reckon on the kit being launched in 2026. So plenty of time to prepare a shocked face for the price.
In the meantime, how about an M2 track car for the rest of the 2025 season? Modified F87s are available from less than £30k now; this one at £35k looks ace, with Nitron suspension, AP Racing brakes, Recaros and a BMW Motorsport rear wing. For those who are very serious, this Competition is less than £40k but comes with more than 500hp, Intrax suspension, a half cage and Sparco seats. Sadly not yellow, though…
