Did you realise that BMW offers an adjustable suspension option for the famously passive M2? You did? Well, congratulations - truthfully, we'd forgotten all about the existence of the dealer-fit height-adjustable coilover kit until we spotted it in the extremely long spec of this 2016 car. It is one unfamiliar M Performance upgrade among many, and evidence of just how far from 'standard' you can get without necessarily spilling the banks of BMW's own aftermarket equipment.
The seller says this car is equipped "with every factory option available"; the original sale price totalling more than £80k - which means it was not far off twice the original M2 base figure. Even more astounding is the fact this seemingly ultimate M2 example has covered little more than 1,000 miles (or so it says in the text, rather than the opening number). To us it feels sacrilege not using such a creation on every sunny day, but then again, for the lucky next custodian, they have a nearly new M2 with £28k with-option price. Just in time for summer.
So what's this car got? The base is pre-Competition days M2, so you've got a twin-turbo inline six providing those rear wheels with 370hp, via - rejoice - a six-speed manual gearbox. A brilliant starting point, obviously. But this particular car sits on a set of HRE FF01 20-inch alloys (a £3.2k option alone) wrapped in Pilot Super Sports, set on a 10mm wider track thanks to spacers. The aforementioned suspension is BMW's £2,200 coilover kit and the brakes get upgrade M sport pads, while the engine breathes through a less restrictive Milltek catback with the optional sports silencer.
The list of exterior and interior additions is even longer, with BMW and also AC Schnitzer bits to add a fair bit of raciness to the already butch and squat M2 stance. The added black bits inject real aggression to the car's look, set against the optional Long Beach Blue paintwork, meaning this M2 may be a step too far for some eyes. For the most part, we're big fans - and the makeover certainly seems worthy given the extent of changes to be made underneath. Confirming this car's intentions is the fitment of a tow strap; it begs the question as to whether this car's mileage is so low because it's been trailered to track days.
Either way, with only around 1,000 miles on the odometer, there's no getting away from how box-fresh this car appears to be. At £52k, it's more expensive than a brand new M2 Competition, but for someone looking for the ultimate expression of BMW M2 - the way BMW itself envisioned it - this might just be it, at least as far as right-hand drive offerings are concerned. Until the CS finally turns up in the UK, that is...
