Hawthorns' BMW Z3 takes off
Want to race but can't afford to buy a car? Hawthorns Motorsport has cut the price of a Britcar drive. Thirty per cent of the costs will now be picked up by the team's sponsors, reducing the price from £8,995 to £6,295.
There are two seats available in addition to the car's two regular drivers, making four in all. The seats will be offered subject to status, to those who are interested in buying the drive, have the necessary skill levels and the budget, together with physical fitness to support six hours of racing each, plus testing and qualifying.
Hawthorns Motorsport ran a Z3-based M Coupe GT3 car in the 2005 British GT series from the beginning of the race season until June 2005 when the prospect of huge potential costs to make the car a GT3 contender loomed. The team then chose to transfer to the less financially demanding EERC Britcar series, which the team said operates a much fairer race car classification system for competitors with sensible or limited budgets.
The car's origins are in 6/12/24hr endurance racing, and will be entered in the Britcar 24-hour Willhire Race. Having successfully entered and completed the 2002 Nürburgring 24 Hours, the 2002 and the 2003 Bathurst 24-hour races, the team reckoned car is highly suited for the job.
The team is fully supported by its preparation team partners, Moore Racing. With their help and advice, the car will be fully prepared for the event. Moore Racing has years of expertise in endurance racing, and Hawthorns said it expects a high level of reliability and therefore a fantastic value for money racing experience for the drivers involved.
An accident damage deposit payment of £2,500 is payable in advance and will be held against any damaged caused by the individual driver, and are fully re-fundable in the event that the driver has no accident damage claims. Hawthorns requires all drivers to sign a full indemnity document with personal guarantees or in combination/instead of, supply an insurance cover policy/letter to cover up to the full cost of totally re-building the car. That's some £35,000. A group policy is a cheaper option if all drivers agree.
The non-refundable fee is an all inclusive figure, apart from insurance and VAT.
