If you've ever used winter tyres on snow, you'll know just how effective they can be. Yet only a tiny minority of motorists in Britain go to the trouble of making the swap in colder months, hence the reason our roads grind to a halt at the first sight of powder.
For those who do prepare their cars correctly, however, snowfall needn't be a problem. In fact, it can be quite the opposite - as we were reminded on a recent ice driving trip to Val Thorens. With an Alpine A110 wearing WRC-spec studded tyres at our disposal, the merits - and hilarity - of driving on snow with such impressive boots were clear to see. As was the car's wonderful poise and balance.
So as some parts of the country struggle to cope with the inclement weather, let's all dedicate our desktop backgrounds to the A110 and the idea of the white stuff being a source of fun, not dread.
