"Values are stationary now, they won't go down any further". What further encouragement do you need? This is the opinion of Mark at Specialist Cars of Malton on the first GT3, and is based on the fact that a first generation 996 can be bought for around £40,000 now. Although this of course depends on finding a car for sale, which is challenging with just 103 RHD models produced.
First-gen and original GT3 the purist's choice
The rarity is one of the key factors in the first GT3s retaining their value. The other is its significance of it as part of 911 history. Arriving before the 996 Turbo, the GT3 demonstrated just how capable the 996 was and the market now reflects that.
The desirability of the first-gen 996, of any GT3 in fact, makes each model easy to sell but harder to source. Every dealer we spoke to said getting hold of stock was a far bigger challenge than moving it on, such is the excellent reputation enjoyed by the cars.
Buy if: You're after a Porsche icon, and one that can be sold on easily and without losing too much.
Don't buy if: You want the best GT3 driving experience for £50,000; that's probably the second-gen 996.
