Widely hailed as one of the best-looking, best-sounding, and best-handling BMW M3s yet made, the E46 generation debuted at the March, 2000 Geneva Salon. Styled by Ulf Weidhase, the newcomer was a deft blend of aggression and subtlety. Available in Coupe or Convertible guises, the E46 M3 was powered by a 3.2-liter DOHC straight-six engine allied to a Getrag six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, the latter could be specified with either a conventional or electro-hydraulically actuated clutch. Dubbed SMG-II when shorn of a third pedal, it proved to be the fastest-shifting gearbox in the world. Credited with developing around 343bhp and 269lb-ft of torque, the compact four-seater was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 155mph (limited). In addition to all-round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and power steering, the nimble BMW boasted a sophisticated M Differential Lock and Traction Control. According to the M Registry, 13,052 Coupes and 7,234 Convertibles were built to RHD Euro-spec. Presented in Carbon Schwarz with a matching Black leather interior, this SMG 2 model benefits from factory optional extras, including rain-sensing wipers, auto lights, M-Double spoke alloys, PDC, headlamp washers, and armrests. It also features additional BMW Carbon trim and a re-trimmed steering wheel in Alcantara with BMW M-stitch. The car was originally purchased by the vendor from a friend in March of 2011. Shortly after the initial purchase, he completed a European tour, covering 5 countries in 5 days, and then shortly after that completed the North Coast 500. The car, however, covered very few miles every year and was always garaged and well looked after, with the right oil used, work done when required, and genuine parts used when necessary. The car even underwent an oil laboratory report in June 2016 (which came back as normal). Having seen little use, the vendor decided to sell the car at the end of 2017. However, after regretting the decision and seeing the car advertised once more, he bought it back at the end of the following year. After a week back in his custodianship, he decided to give the car a bodywork overhaul. This included replacing the front wings, as well as the rear arches, the rear boot lid, the sills, and more, repaired. The car then underwent a full respray at a cost of approximately 4,500, with accompanying photographs available. Shortly after the paint had time to settle, the car received a full detail to enhance the paint and a ceramic coating to protect it. Replacement genuine BMW badges were sourced, along with a number of trim items, and the wheels were powder-coated in Silver for good measure. With only around 500 miles covered since (including 300 from a trip to the Lake District), the car still presents well. Worth noting is that there are some minor imperfections in the paint on both front wings. Currently displaying 113,133 miles on the odometer at the time of consignment, the car is being offered for sale due to lack of use, having covered just 19 miles in the last year. Included with the vehicle is an impressive history file containing every MOT certificate dating back to 2007, a significant collection of invoices on file totalling over 11,300 and dating back to 2008, the original BMW book pack, including the Europa Service booklet, radio operating instructions, "Looking After Your Car" booklet, guide to BMW services, Tracker booklet, owners handbook, supplementary owners handbook, dealer warranty handbook, and the BMW service booklet, which contains 15 stamps, with the most recent at 109,835 miles. Also included is the V5C document displaying 7 former keepers. Please note: The registartion number pictured is not offered with the car.
