This BMW 2002 is a particularly well-preserved example of the desirable classic sports coupe, in highly original condition.

Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre ‘M10’ inline-four, delivering around 101bhp to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

First registered in December 1973, this right-hand drive example was with its previous owner for five years as part of a BMW showroom museum piece.

The odometer indicates 55,921 miles, however this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This 2002 is finished in the appealing hue of Atlantic Blue over a black vinyl-trimmed interior, featuring black corduroy seat inserts.

It rides on a set of 13-inch ‘Type 186’ body-coloured alloy wheels with polished accents and anodised lips, shod in Uniroyal ‘The Rain Tyre’ tyres.

The factory specification includes twin front spotlights, a heated rear screen, push-out rear quarter light windows, a Blaunpunkt radio and heater and ventilation controls.

The car is accompanied by a spare wheel, a print-out of the specifications and model history, a collection of MOT certificates dating back to 1986, and a small selection of maintenance invoices.

There is a wireless Bluetooth system with Morel speakers.

CONDITION

Specific notes from the seller include: repairs to bodywork corrosion were carried out in June 1998 at a cost of over £4,000, and there is age-related interior wear.

The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults.

The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 5 February 2018 at an indicated 49,912 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

This vehicle is now exempt from mandatory MOT testing as it is more than 40 years old.

SERVICE HISTORY

This 2002’s most recent maintenance was carried out by Ashley motors in May 2025, which consisted of carburettor rebuild, rebuilt front suspension including ball joints, new main seals on break master cylinder and new water pump.

Previous works in 2019 at Cotswold BMW include an engine oil and filter change, and two new fuel hoses.

Cotswold BMW has also replaced a wheel bearing, a rear side shaft, drive flange hub, rocker cover gasket, and the battery.

Prior to this, a service was carried out in 2017.
