1965 FORD MUSTANG

Let’s talk about “Beauty”.

We have all been excited about the prospect of attaining this car here at Pilgrim V8, and after managing to secure it in principle, this amazing original ’65 Fastback has finally graced us with her presence. And what a beauty she is!

The Ford Mustang needs little introduction. It became an overnight sensation upon launch, an icon for rebellious American freedom over its 7 generations and is now considered a true automotive legend.

When Ford added the 2+2 “Fastback” to the Mustang lineup in 1965, it was the hot ticket and remains so to this day.

A total of 559,451 Mustangs were built in 1965 of which only 77079 were Fastbacks. Therefore, approximately 14% of the Mustangs built in 1965 were Fastbacks. Decoding the VIN reveals that this Factory A Code car from Dearborn MI, was built with a 289cu (4.7L) V8, 4 speed manual, in Raven Black with White Crinkle Vinyl interior. Which is a very rare colour combination for this year.

Inside we can see the sought after “Rally-Pack” dials and a very rare interior tonneau cover that can shield the view of larger valuables left within the vehicle if so required.

As the story goes, the original owner (a Dearborn plant employee) and his wife moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1983 and took this, their beloved Mustang, with them driving it all the way. As per the Arizona registration documentation, the odometer read 17,409 miles on July 13th, 1983. In 1988, the couple moved back to Michigan with the car and in 1992 it was sold to its 2nd owner, who was also a very good friend of the original owner, with just over 19,000 miles. It was during this ownership the Fastback graced many a car show where it became affectionately known as “Black Beauty”.

In 2015 the Fastback graced our shores and the cherished ownership of only 2 UK owners. Upon arrival a fresh external Raven Black respray was carried out and a newer Borla stainless steel exhaust to enhance the V8 rumble, The rest of the car however, looks to be pretty much all original and in fantastic condition! The factory heads have been upgraded with hardened seats to burn unleaded fuel. The car now shows 27,247 original miles as it was predominately relegated to car shows and Sunday cruising duties where she continues to win awards!

We love to name our cars here at Pilgrim V8 and as we already have had a black beauty on our books, we refer to her as “Belle” as an ode to her former moniker and the stallion portrayed in the TV series, as well as being French for “beauty” and the name of a famous Disney princess! How very fitting!

The sale includes the original owner's manual, original maintenance booklet, original service manual, original owner's card, original keys and a host of show plaques and provenience. This is a really well documented first generation fastback Mustang!
