Description
BMW ALPINA D3
A Future Classic – BMW ALPINA D3 With NEW ENGINE only 108K Miles!
I bought this car last year because I was looking for something interesting, quick, and very fuel-efficient — and the ALPINA D3 ticks all of those boxes. It also has the added bonus of exclusivity, being a very rare car that tends to get a nod of approval from those in the know. It's quite discreet too, thanks to its subtle styling, and the classic Alpina alloys have been kept in their original silver finish. The headlights and taillights haven’t been tinted, and there are no tacky body kits etc — it’s been kept tasteful but stealthy looking. I had the opportunity to purchase a newer fresher engine recently, It was a good price so I thought I’d get my local garage to swap the leggy 220K engine with turbo and give the car many more miles to its life despite the fact that these M47 engines go on for ever and ever. This was a much cheaper option than having a full rebuild because of labour time. The engine fires up on the button and drives very well as it had an overhaul with brand new clutch kit, flywheel, starter motor, intercooler and new injectors too. There have been a few subtle performance upgrades along the way.
MOT August 2025 (last one passed with no advisories, added pictures from underneath the car).
Unfortunately, the arrival of our baby last month (genuinely!) means there just isn’t enough space for a pram and cot when travelling to visit and stay with family in Wales, so I’ve had to buy an estate car. (F31 BMW 335d Touring was the closest thing to the D3 I could get my hands on!) I much prefer the nicely weighted hydraulic steering in the D3 and the ride is way better despite being an older car, but I'm getting side tracked now....
I genuinely don’t want to sell this car, as it drives superbly. It just glides over potholes and speed bumps and I know it sounds like a cliche, but it really does handle like it’s on rails. The speed you can carry around motorway slip roads is unreal, no body roll at all. It’s fitted with the original factory ALPINA-tuned Bilstein shock absorbers and softer springs, making it a joy to drive. Performance-wise, it’s been upgraded with BMW 330 brakes, an ALPINA map, a larger turbo, and 335d injectors — making this a proper driver’s car.
As soon as you sit inside, you're greeted by the iconic blue ALPINA dials and a unique build number plaque on the dash — a signature touch and a very good set of Alpina leather seats which really hold you in place around the corners. I would’ve kept it as a second car, but living in the centre of Chester means we don’t have any on-road parking for another vehicle.
Currently, the car is producing around 240 BHP with the help of some subtle mods listed below, but more importantly, over 500 Nm of torque. It’ll return approximately 50 MPG. With a £300 rolling road session and remap, there’s even more potential torque to be had — something I had planned before our family situation changed.

Condition:
Overall in great condition for milage: No Rust or Corrosion. Look at the underneath pics attached. Drives superbly, with overhauled replacement engine, new injectors, new clutch, new flywheel etc. Great solid brakes. No interior rattles. No suspension clunks. Very quiet inside the cabin. All interior electrics are working. Fresh A/C.6mm tyre tread.Paintwork has some lacquer peel in certain areas and the odd scrape, sorting this would make it perfect. Alpina Wheels could do with a refurbish to be perfect. Didn't get round to doing these. NSF headlight has some condensation in it. Easy to replace.
