Description
Up for sale is my 1964 Morris Mini Minor 850 Super De Luxe in iconic Almond Green – a charming, mechanically sorted example that turns heads and tells a story.
This Mini was originally off the road for around 15 years. The previous owner bought it from an elderly gentleman who had been slowly restoring it during that time until his eyesight sadly forced him to give up. Since then, it’s had a comprehensive recommission by the highly regarded Tiger Motor Co. of Sandwich, Kent at a cost of nearly £6,000 (with receipts).
🔧 Mechanical Overview:
Underneath, the car is structurally solid. It passed its 2022 MOT with no advisories following a full mechanical recommission. That said, it wears its history proudly – with signs of filler, some “make-do” welding, and a patinated exterior best described as “shabby chic”. A great 10-footer that retains tons of character.
✅ Work Completed Includes:
Engine and gearbox removed, stripped, cleaned, inspected, and rebuilt with new main bearings, thrust washers, oil pump, and timing components.
Cylinder head rebuilt with new valve stem seals, lapped valves, cleaned waterways.
Rebuilt gearbox and differential with refreshed seals and gaskets.
Fully rebuilt front and rear suspension with new Hi-Lo adjustable units, shock absorbers, suspension cones, and rebuilt radius arms.
Brand new Mini Spares 7.5” Cooper S disc brake conversion.
Refurbished subframes and structural areas, seam sealed, painted, and undersealed.
Engine bay detailed with refurbished ancillaries, new alternator, starter motor, wiring repairs and upgrades, and new bulkhead insulation.
New clutch and brake master/slave cylinders, lines, hoses, and brake system overhaul.
Fully bled and adjusted brakes, clutch, suspension and ignition timing.
Fuel tank removed, cleaned, painted, and sender modified (¼ is the new empty!).
Fresh 20W/50 oil, coolant flush, and full service.
Extensive cosmetic improvements under the bonnet, in the cabin and underneath – including stone chip paint to rear arches and interior floors, painted inner wings, refurbished heater, cleaned and painted switchgear, and more.
🏁 Upgrades & Style:
The Mini is now tastefully modified in the spirit of a 1960s Café Racer:
Early Cooper S-style alloy wheels with new tyres
Period-style Karobes bucket seat (original seat included)
Alexander gear stick extension
Custom grille and moustache trim
Astrali steering wheel
Fully reversible modifications – can be easily returned to standard if preferred
📝 Things to Note:
It runs slightly rich – likely due to the choke not fully disengaging; still being fine-tuned. A carb rebuild might be worthwhile long term.
Minor oil leak – it’s a Mini, after all!
Not concours – it has some filler and patchwork, but it’s honest and well-sorted.
