Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at Silverstone Festival 2025 on Sunday the 24th of August, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN.
The Riley Elf (along with its Wolseley Hornet stable mate) was considerably better appointed than 'ordinary' Minis. The original 848cc-engined Elf/Hornet was superseded by the more powerful 998cc MkII in 1963
This remarkable MkII was finished in Birch Grey with an OEW roof and supplied new by St. Roques Garage in Dundee on 11/04/1963 to its first owner, a lady from Ninewells, Dundee
Only used for shopping trips, she sold it to its second owner in September 1985 at 10,400 miles. He used it even less, covering just 500 miles up until 1996, however it was regularly MOT'd
Subsequent owners have obviously applied the same philosophy, as today it has still covered just under 20,200 miles
The little Elf has never been restored and what makes it so special is that it has simply been looked after all its life. Originally by owners who didn't go anywhere and latterly by owners who simply appreciated its charm and originality
It's supplied with everything - every MOT, tax disc, invoice, correspondence from Elf/Hornet Register, original brochure, period adverts, articles, photographs, owner's manual, spare key etc.
The mileage is 20,000, not 2,000, so even though the car is technically 'Museum Quality', it's eminently usable and would be welcome everywhere
