This 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 is an excellent example of one of Ford’s most celebrated performance cars of the era, combining raw power, distinctive styling, & a rich motorsport heritage.

The Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1, is a notable model in Ford’s performance lineup, developed primarily for Group A racing homologation. Its production was limited, with only 8,604 units manufactured, all exclusively in Diamond White.

This example has been fully restored/refurbished from top to bottom, using many new old stock parts, it is also a very rare example being on a ‘D’ registration.

Body & Paintwork

Finished in its correct & exclusive Diamond White paintwork, this car is a head-turner.

Its bold, aerodynamic styling is accentuated by body coloured bumpers, wheel arch extensions, front grille & front & rear spoilers, along with its signature side stripes & RS badging. The 15-inch 7-spoke RS alloy wheels complete the timeless look.

The outside of this RS Turbo has been restored to a very high standard from top to bottom, look underneath & you will see the underside has had as much, if not more time & care spent as the bits you can see.

A full underside restoration has been carried out with attention to detail even down to the factory markings & blue bolts fitted on the correct suspension components

Interior & Trim

Step inside, & you’ll find the classic Recaro bucket seats upholstered in Monza & Cashmere fabrics.

The cabin offers a perfect blend of sportiness & comfort, with additional features like a sunroof, central locking, opening rear quarter windows & central locking available as part of the optional Custom Pack.

As you can see from the pictures the inside of this RS Turbo has had the same love & care as the rest of the car. The seats, door trims & dashboard are all in very good condition, it really is a lovely place to sit, transporting you back to the mid 80s.

Engine

Powering this legendary hot hatch is the renowned 1.6L CVH engine, a turbocharged Ford RS was the car to beat at the time & the performance figures give a clear indication as to why.

0-60mph of around 8 seconds, along with a top speed of 125mph, all in the mid 80’s…. plus the ability to make further improvements over the standard figures thanks to the specialists at the time – many RS Turbo’s were improved by owners from the original 132bhp to over 200bhp with relative ease.

Designed to deliver exhilarating performance while maintaining reliability, this engine set new standards for turbocharged front wheel drive cars of its era.

This example remains in standard form/power just as the purist would like.

The Series 1 Ford Escort RS Turbo was designed with a focus on performance, durability & handling, essential attributes for both road use & motorsport homologation.

As per the rest of the car, all running gear is in excellent condition, it really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.
