MAZDA MX-5 - 1.8 Megasquirt 160bhp

So, I’m gutted but it has to go, I haven’t got the time or the space to warrant keeping it, as much as I love it and it’s easily the most fun car I’ve owned.

I’ll admit, it's got good bits and really does fly but if you’re looking for a show queen this is not the car for you unless you want a project.

1992 J -reg – UK MX-5 I’ve owned it since 2008 when it was bought as a cheap run around and I got hooked.

For the last 8 years or so it’s been looked after by the knowledgeable guys at AK Automotive.

In 2014 it went in for the biggest work undertaken, a 1.8 “hybrid” engine based on Mk2.5 VVT bottom end mated to Mk2 head which has had a skim/valve seat work, fitted with a square top manifold and Piper cams. This is running an Enhanced Megasquirt 2 and when mapped put out 154bhp with a lovely power curve (see pics). Since that was done the intake has been tidied up and the standard manifold replaced with a Fujitsubo manifold (I had the flexi replaced too as it was past its best) and I reckon it’s in the 160 bhp region now as the original manifold did strangle it a fair bit.

At this time it also had the sills done, all cut back and replaced, it’s a proper decent job.

4.1 Torsen Diff

Lotus Elise drivers seat, working lumbar adjustment and custom fabricated bracket so mounted to MX5 seat rails

Stainless Steel exhaust including decat pipe

Team Dynamics Pro Race 2 alloy wheels (15 inch), Uniroyal Rain Sport 3s with plenty tread

Brakes from Mk2 MX5 1.8s front & rear, larger discs and EBC yellow stuff brake pads

Mk2 mohair roof with heated rear glass screen, it’s got a few wear marks that are starting to go through and will need to be repaired but other than that is pretty decent.

Under chassis bracing front and rear, cabin brace bar.

Clear Lens headlights, LED sidelights, de-tango indicators and clear reflectors

It’s just been MOT’d, has a new battery and had an oil/filter change.

Now the bad points.

Paint, rear bumper needs to be replaced as the paint is cracked and there are 3 bits of cosmetic rust, front wing, rear wing and a bit at the top of the windscreen surround. The doors and sides are good as they were done with the sills but bonnet needs a respray.

It's not kept at home so will need to arrange viewing in advance, I'm pretty busy with work but should be ok to sort it if you give me a bit of notice.
