Just got back from visiting a mate in Skegness, on the way up there yesterday afternoon, there were loads of speed camera's on the A52. I was a good boy and stuck to the speed limits through all the villages, however, i got sidetracked coming out of this village and my speed crept up to 50 in a 40. It was very briefly but in the process I went past one of these pups;

Can someone explain how they work? I was on the understanding that they worked in tandem with another one and averaged your speed across the 2?
I made damn sure that i watched my speed from then on but it'll be rather annoying as i have a clean licence and have had it like that a while now.
Does anyone know the score with this please?

Specs cameras do the averaging thing. That's a Truvelo, which is an instant snapshot.

Was it on your side of the road? Were you driving towards it or away?

That one works by sensors in the road surface just in front of it.

If your speedo was showing 50 in a 40 zone, there's a good chance that in fact you were doing under 46 (the ACPo guideline for enforcement of a 40 zone) and that you were not snapped.

Wait 14 days for the NIP before worrying about this more.

Did it flash you? These things have a reddy/purple flash, which you would have seen, as it goes off in your face. If it didn't, no need to worry.

it was on my side of the road facing me, it didn't flash to my knowledge. I'll have to wait and see i suppose. Thanks for the input.

Can't always see the flash, esp. not in bright daylight.

Best wait and see.

They don't flash visible light, instead they use infra red so as not to dazzle the driver. Wait 2 weeks with fingers crossed. There's a reasonable chance that you "nearing" 50mph was closer to 45mph in which case you'll be ok. Good luck.....

Bloody hell, 50 in a 40!

How come you didn't crash and cause a rash of road deaths?

I believe he was responsible for the deaths of a large number of insects in this moment of madness

Myth. They do flash, but they have a red coloured lense so as not to dazzle. No IR. They're not that advanced!

i'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying on a daily basis that i didn't fall foul cos that would really get my back up!!!!

If you do get an NIP, then use the PACE defence.

I believe it must be posted to the registered keeper within 14 days. If you are the registered keeper then you can breathe easy after about 17 - 21 days (depending on how many pies your postman has eaten!)

It has to be posted 1st class with the expectation that it will arrive within 14 days.
So, realistically, it has to be posted on the 12th day at the latest.
