i returned from london last night, and on the M1 there are SPECS at 40mph, i go 40mph, yet I have seen so many cars zoom past me at 50mph or plus. Do they know something I don't..or are they all driving stolen cars or something?
its the same on the M6 between jct 5 and 6, i go 40mph precisely and i see loads of cars driving past

Further up the M1 1,000 drivers were caught by SPECS in 4 days.

Maybe they're locals who know where the cameras are and know which sections of road aren't covered?
By the way, I thought the original plan for those roadworks said that the limits would be 40 mph where there was unprotected crew, raised to 50 where safety barriers were in place. MOst of the roadworks are protected by steel barriers, so it sees strange that a blanket 40 limit is still in force?

If you join at J10 northbound then you only pass one SPECS camera so it can't take an average reading.
Also, if you ride a bike then you are immune from them - no front number plate.
Besides that, most speedos overead. I know mine does (GPS tested) so instead of travelling at an indicated 40mph, I do around 45mph indicated. This can be enough to make ground on a lot of cars.
But yes, I see lots of cars rushing between the cameras. I guess they don't understand the concept of AVERAGE speed!

People can't be forced to comply yet. They have the ability to choose not to comply & to collect fines & points instead.
Just leave the front plates off and go through at 100. No compliance and yet no fines. Two fingers up to the system.
The system is likley to get you eventually, by other means if not that. They never get every offence but the odds are stacked against you getting away with it forever.
There's no point sweating over the ones that get away, because they invariably come again.

You get a lot of people doing 36-37mph in these roadworks 'cos their speedos over-read. Then there's the 10mph +2mph guideline. I've yet to hear of anyone getting done for less than 48mph on these stretches but if anybody knows of this happening, then please feel free to let us all know on here...

Or just tailgate a truck as you pass a camera.....

If possible I tail gate a truck as I past the cameras, just in case I am going a little it too fast.

I've done this when I thought I'd initially been a bit hasty You could also pull over to the hard shoulder if the engine was about to blow or just drive like a numpty for a few moments.

one of my favourite tricks at a ridiculously inappropriate camera I know locally in a NSL on a straight piece of almost deserted road in the borders is to stop, unvelcro my numberplates and belt past it until I get bored thing is, most people are cruising at 80mph on that stretch (and it really is a stretch!) only to brake and then speed up again...and these are the local numpties, not mr&mrs cainer out for a hoon!
the way I see it, I get a bit of fun and 3 or 4 people who get flashed won't get anything in the post as a result
*it is stated by the local cop force that it always is active with film btw

but do these people really get fines, these SPECS must be getting loads of revenue from what i have seen on the motorways recently.
Yes they do, then some no doubt will complain about how unfair that is.

No doubt.
The volume of people being caught would suggest, however, that the method of enforcement is grossly flawed. If the camera(s) were effective then no-one would be getting caught. As it stands, all that is happening is that people are driving through unaware that they're about to get NIPs.
How does that improve workers' safety I am bound to ask?
