Just a thought I have seen so many ANPR vehicles lately and whilst I know they are looking for untaxed vehicles, are they also looking or un-insured vehicles or vehicles with no MOT (Computerised new type).

Thanks DVD, care to expand if you are able. 100% legit myself but was wondering what other mis-demeanours they were looking for besides RFL and reported license plates. More power to their elbow I say!

Well if you're a lowlife scumbag with 30 burglaries to your name, and happen to have a car registered in your name, I wouldn't mind betting you'd get pulled in at each ANPR location you passed.....

I would like to suggest that if the vehicle is flagged on the DVLA system (stolen, crime, missing person etc) it will also pipe up, not just tax/insurance.

Or if someone just wants to know where you drive you car and when? Must say that in principle I have no problem with it but if the data is stored then Big Brother looms. Also I would assume that anyone with any brain at all would borrow some plates before doing anything dodgy...

I've just realised: I don't ever recall seeing rearward facing ANPR cameras (just like SPECS), has anyone else seen any?

Do the smart crims ride bikes?

What about the ones fitted to patrol cars. They're forward facing.

ANPR links to PNC and also force intelligence systems where they will pick up on any vehicle with a flag against it.

About time we had something that got rid of those red and white flags stuck on cars

ANPR on London Bridge last week, accompanied by sniffer dogs (seemingly drugs rather than explosives - by the dogs involved). Black cab (well, white actually) had been stopped as I was passing. Unusual that! A London taxi being non-compliant, that is! - Streaky

My towns got cameras at almost every junction main junction and some side streets. They must erect them at night but there's a real blight. Would these be anpr. Tubuler camera, usually right next to the ordinary cctv cameras.

ANPR cameras are paired, one for a video feed and the other to scan for licence plates. Round my way on single carriageways, they are all mounted on the same pole, which makes them distinctive. Very shortly you will not be able to use the main routes into/out of the city without passing the cameras. It's excellent stuff, so many good jobs result from it.

One ANPR trap catches more people in the Welsh Valleys for 'other' crimes than a whole force of plod doing their usual thing.

Yes these are paired. The round camera is a type I haven't seen before whilst the rectangular camera is the same as they use in the town centre to watch out for crime etc. Thanks.

If you are happy for every journey you make from pt A to Pt B to be recorded for three years to be reviewed by just about anyone in this country and anyone in any other country then no you are not missing anything

That's fine if it is manned and the police are on hand to aprehend people without tax/insurance/MOT. The passive surveillance of cameras on every road however is less effective. Sending a NIP to the registered address when that address is false won't stop the serious offenders.

Watching every road and recording every journey just doesn't make sense.
